Licence and where the music comes from
We make every piece of music in Meditee ourselves. Nothing is borrowed, nothing comes from a stock library — and here is what that means.
Effective from {{DOPLNIT: datum účinnosti}}
Esta página está en inglés. Meditee mantiene los textos legales en checo e inglés. La versión checa es la vinculante; en caso de discrepancia prevalece el texto checo.
The author of the Meditee app and of all the music in it is {{DOPLNIT: obchodní jméno}}, Company ID (IČO) {{DOPLNIT: IČO}}, registered office at {{DOPLNIT: sídlo}}. By using the app you accept these licence terms; they supplement the Terms of Service, which apply alongside them.
1. Where the music comes from
Every track, every nature sound and the bell at the end of the timer was made for Meditee. We use no third-party recordings, samples, loops, MIDI files or stock music libraries.
The music is created by synthesis: every tone is computed from mathematical functions — sine waves, noise, filters and reverb. The melodies are composed by our own algorithm from motifs with a given seed, which makes them reproducible and makes them ours. The chord progressions are ordinary harmonic patterns, which are not protected by copyright.
That leads to something most comparable apps cannot say: no third-party author, no publisher and no collecting society has a claim to the music in Meditee. We pay no licence fees for it and no one can take a track away from us.
2. What you may do with the music
For as long as your account exists we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to listen to the music in Meditee for your personal use. You may download it to your device with the offline feature and listen to it anywhere, as often as you like.
Personal use includes listening with family and friends at home or in your headphones.
3. What you may not do with it
- redistribute it, upload it to other services, sell it or make it available to the public in any way,
- use it as background in videos, podcasts, streams, advertising or other works,
- play it in public — in a shop, a café, a waiting room, a yoga class or at an event,
- edit, remix or sample it, or create derivative works from it,
- obtain the files other than by downloading them inside the app, or circumvent technical measures.
If you want to use Meditee music commercially — in a video, in a venue, at an event — write to {{DOPLNIT: kontaktní e-mail}}. Because we hold the rights ourselves, we can arrange a licence quickly and without involving third parties. Without a written licence, though, it is not allowed.
4. Photographs
The cover images for playlists, moods and sounds are photographs from Wikimedia Commons. We did not take them, so they carry their authors' licences — most often CC BY-SA 4.0, CC BY 4.0, CC0 or public domain.
The full list of photographs with author, licence and a link to the source is in CREDITS.md for the covers in the app and CREDITS.md for the images on the website.
5. Articles and texts
The short articles in the Reading section are written by us. The same applies as to the music: you may read them for yourself, but not reuse, reprint or pass them off as your own.
6. Licence to the app
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for as long as your account exists. The licence is not limited by territory.
We are not selling you software and we are not transferring copyright to you. You may not reproduce the app, rent it, sublicense it or run it as a service for third parties. Reverse engineering and decompilation are excluded except to the extent the law expressly permits.
The licence ends when the account is deleted or the contract ends.
7. Your content
Your own playlists, the names you give them and the messages you send us remain yours. You grant us only the licence we need to run the service — to store the content, transfer it and show it back to you. The licence ends when the content or the account is deleted.
Music submitted by a creator is governed by separate creator terms, which you see when you apply.
8. Third-party software
The app uses third-party libraries distributed under open licences, in particular MIT, Apache 2.0 and BSD. Those components are governed by their own licence terms, which prevail over this document.
The Geist typeface is a work of Vercel and is distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
We will send you the full list of libraries and their licence texts on request at {{DOPLNIT: kontaktní e-mail}}. {{DOPLNIT: až seznam vznikne, doplňte sem odkaz na stránku s licencemi třetích stran}}
9. Trade marks
The Meditee name, the logo and the visual identity of the app are ours. You may not use them without our written consent, apart from ordinary references to the service.
10. App stores
Apple and Google are not parties to this licence and are not responsible for the app or its content. If you got Meditee through the App Store, Apple's terms of use apply alongside these terms; where the two conflict, Apple's rules prevail.
